Work Title : Plage du Terminus 40
Marie Havel was born in 1990 in Soissons she lives and works in Montpellier (South of France). The artist is a graduate from the Fine Arts School (Beaux-Arts) of Montpellier. Between modelling and drawing, Marie Havel places her work in a transcription of a continuous cycle of construction and disappearance. Her approach takes its source in known places, the artist magnifies the ruin by envisaging thus “to reactivate this one and to define it like means of construction”.
This work brings together on the same medium the founding practices of my work that are drawing and model making. It is about known and experienced places, here of the departments of the Aisne and the Pas-de-Calais. These territories, which have been strongly marked by the two world wars, have a strong historical influence and preserve traces and vestiges of them. And in a very explicit way, like the remains of bunkers that this series of drawings explores.
The choice of materials of modelism, taken out of their classic use (model of historical reconstitution, architecture or board games), allows to put in tension these materials; belonging to the project, to the emerging idea, to the pattern. With a place more evocative of ruin, of destruction, in order perhaps to perceive them differently, to try to imagine these ruins as sketches.
