Artistic approach
The world is a baroque farce…
For several years, I have been nourished by paintings from periods between the Renaissance and the end of the 19th century, from Western Europe, mainly depicting women. These canvases were painted by men, minus the right to humor. Working with images that have been enhanced by the filter of history allows me to talk about the desire for legitimacy and recognition that we believe we possess when we gain power.
Humor and misappropriation, such as the electric socket suggested on the wall behind Circéronde, allow me to thwart the seriousness of these representations, revealing the pantomime of my characters. Like Carlo Crivelli, who painted a zucchini in the foreground of his Saints, the incongruity of the detail reveals the pantomime of power within their representations, in which they all believe they are at their best for posterity…[…].
